The Ellicott City Colored School Restored was chosen by artist Ann J. Crostic as her subject matter during the 2020 annual Paint IT! plein air event hosted by the Howard County Arts Council each year.  The event draws many artists to sites around Howard County and to Ellicott City in particular. Each year Patapsco Heritage Greenway supports the arts by sponsoring the event and funding a juried award for the “Best Depiction of the River.” In addition, the organization often purchases artworks like Ms. Crostic’s to use in their marketing materials for Patapsco Valley Heritage Area. Ms. Crostic’s painting features one of the Heritage Area’s many historic attractions.
