What exactly is a Heritage Area?
The Maryland Heritage Areas program was created in 1996 as part of a broader effort to encourage heritage tourism in Maryland.
Today, we have 13 certified Heritage Areas in Maryland, which are locally designated, and State certified regions where public and private partners make commitments to preserving historical, cultural, and natural resources for sustainable economic development.
In the Patapsco Valley Heritage Area (PVHA), Patapsco Heritage Greenway (PHG) is the managing entity of the PVHA. This means that we work towards broader Maryland Heritage Area goals surrounding heritage tourism through a variety of efforts.
These activities range anywhere from watershed & invasive species cleanups to hosting educational lectures, to even providing sponsorship and mini-grant funding to local groups and nonprofits engaging in conservation and preservation work.
So how can you support PHG in its efforts to preserve the Patapsco Valley Heritage Area?
Become a member by making a donation with the form below.
Patapsco Heritage Greenway’s membership is the cornerstone of our support network. With your help, we educate others to care for the Patapsco Valley’s delicate ecosystem and better understand its importance in the nation’s history.
Your support is central to our continuing efforts to preserve, protect, interpret, and restore the environment, history, and culture of the Patapsco River Valley for all.
Any donation at or above the individual or family level (currently $30 and $45, respectively) will make you or your family a member of PHG for the twelve months following the donation date.
Individual donors who contribute a total of $100 or more during the 2023 calendar year will receive a 2024 PaSNAPsco calendar.
All current members are invited to participate in the annual meeting, typically held in September, and vote on nominees to the board of directors
