Alternative Spring Break is an annual volunteer event hosted by Howard EcoWorks. It runs during Howard County Public School System’s scheduled Spring Break, and offers a chance for students and adults to engage in public service. *This event is unique compared to our other Alternative Spring Break Locations: Patapsco Heritage Greenway will be leading tis event.

Join Patapsco Heritage Greenway for a tree maintenance activity at Hollifield Station Elementary School! Our trees at this site have reached their mature stage, so we will be removing the caging and water bags to allow these trees to grow fully independently. We will also have garden tools available to remove weeds. Help us prepare these beautiful trees for this summer growing season! This is a great opportunity to gain volunteer hours, experience with environmental stewardship, and help your local community. 

These activities are recommended for ages 8 and up. You may bring small children, but they must be supervised by their adult, and keep in mind that the work may not be appropriate for them.

Howard EcoWorks will provide:

• Tools and tool training

• Safety vests

• And work gloves (limited)

We recommend that volunteers bring:

• Appropriate clothing for the weather and the outdoors.

• Additional working gloves, or child size gloves for young children.

• Closed-toed shoes appropriate for the outdoors, ideally boots, some areas may be wet and muddy.

• Your own water and bottle. (We will also have water for refilling).

• Additionally, children should not be under the age of 8 years old for this activity.

How to register:

• “Buy” our FREE ticket to register for this event (this is our new registration form that’s in ticket format)

• Volunteers age 16 & 17 may attend on their own, but their guardian must consent in registration

• Each adult must register, please add children under 18 if they’re attending with you.
